For this game we used one 6-sided dice for the “fight.” So even if you’re completely unprepared, you can fight the fox (which has a “health” of 5) and beat it by rolling a 5 or 6.

The way the game works is that there are artifacts that help you defeat each of the four corner monsters. A stake and a torch against a vampire, for example. And then when you take on the dragon in the middle, all of your artifacts count but it has a higher strength.

We actually started on a second variant of this game that had cards for many kinds of monster, to add some variety; and cards for many types of adventurer (each stronger in a particular corner of the board.) But we didn’t take it to completion—it got complicated fast, with a big spreadsheet.
